I signed up for Firstleaf Wine Club as a skeptic, and now I’m spilling the tea (wine) on how I liked it and if its worth the money.
Ok ok so the title is a little dramatic… but Firstleaf Wine Club has seriously changed my views on wine.
I first signed up for Firstleaf Wine Club in early 2021. Now a year into the pa*dem*c and I was… not coping well. My first daughter was born in August of 2019 and I was just getting comfortable leaving the house to run errands with her when the whole ass world shut down.
Needless to say, I needed something fun and exciting to look forward to. I had heard of several wine club subscription boxes, but chose Firstleaf because 6 bottles of wine for $40 was too good to pass up. Considering I was too intimidated to shop the wine aisles at the liquor store and regularly settled for the cheap brands (*cough cough* box wine), this was a low-risk way of trying new wines without embarrassing myself.
How it works
There’s a quiz you take when you first join to figure out what kind of wines you’ll like most based on your answers, and at the end it will show you the 6 wines they choose for you. If you know you won’t like a specific wine, you can swap it out. I honestly didn’t have enough of an opinion on any of the wines chosen for me to make a change, so I went with the 1st round picks.
The checkout process is super simple (you get free shipping!) and the wine ships really quickly. I placed my order on a Friday and it showed up by Tuesday! My level of excitement was definitely close to Christmas Excited™️, even though I knew what I was getting.
The Goods
The wines came in a nice box and the part I liked most is that each wine came with a fact sheet. On it was info like the flavor profile, the region it came from, and foods it pairs well with. This was helpful because while I wanted to expand my wine horizons, I also wanted to know why I liked or disliked a wine. Being able to compare the wines by their fact sheets helped me narrow down the types of wines I preferred. The cards allow for a self guided tasting of sorts!
As you try each wine, you can rate them in your Firstleaf account. Each rating you provide them will help refine their selections for your subsequent boxes. Its a really personalized experience, and helps guarantee you’ll love what they send every time.
The Verdict
It took me a while to try all 6 bottles of wine, but each time I opened one it was such a fun surprise. Firstleaf Wine Club was really able to pick great wines for a novice like myself based on what kind of snack food I liked and how I took my coffee. My favorite ended up being a Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand (Quartz Bay for the curious), which I now seek out when I’m wine shopping.
I am definitely a commitment-phobe when it comes to being locked in to a subscription, to the extent that I will happily pay a higher monthly fee for something if it means I can bail at a moment’s notice. That’s another reason why I like Firstleaf Wine Club – you don’t have to commit to anything. Once you receive your introductory box, you can tailor your subscription to what suits your needs. If you need to skip a month, just log in to your account and pause the subscription.
If you click this link, you can get your 1st box of 6 bottles of wine for $39.95 with free shipping!! That’s less than $7/bottle for award winning wines 🤯
If you signed up for Firstleaf Wine Club, let me know how you liked it in the comments!
[…] Wine Club – I know these have been around for a minute, but YOU GUYS. This is so cool. You take a quickie quiz to determine what kind of wines you (or mom) prefer, and based on your answers they hand select 6 bottles from amazing regions all over the world for you! The best part is your first box of 6 wines rings in at under $40. Even if Mom doesn’t love wine you can get this and give individual bottles to other moms in your life, or… keep them for yourself. I won’t tell. If you’re on the fence, you can read my review here. […]
