This beer bread is ridiculously easy to make and tastes amazing! No yeast, no rising – just mix the ingredients and bake. Enjoy!
For someone who loves bread and carbs as much as I do, I’m really not willing to take hours to make a single loaf of bread. Who has time to let yeast activate, then rise, then bake? I definitely do not.
I was making my favorite chili recipe recently and really wanted some bread to go along with it. So I went to my favorite search engine Pinterest and started looking for quick bread recipes I could throw together. All these recipe for beer bread kept popping up!
I picked one that seemed easy and figured if it was garbage, I didn’t waste all day working on it. The bread was good! No rising, no yeast, and came together in 1 hour total.
Good is never good enough for me, so the next time I made it I spiced it up a bit. I grow chives in my garden so I chopped up some of those, tossed in some shredded cheddar because obviously, and added garlic powder for a little kick.
When I say I want to live inside this bread. Its dense and so buttery which is perfect for soaking up soup or chili. It has tons of flavor! I’m speaking from experience when I say it makes an excellent snack toasted with some (more) butter. I’ve made this bread dozens of times for all different meals and I don’t think I’ll ever stop making it.
Pro tip

A fun quirk of this bread is that the beer you use actually impacts the flavor quite a bit. I usually use a generic light beer but have tried a few others in a pinch. Hoppy beers really leave a strong beer after taste which I didn’t enjoy. I’ve also used ales which are nice and pumpkin beer too!

The Most Incredible Yeast Free Cheddar Chive Beer Bread
Notes
The beer you choose has a real impact on the flavor of your bread! I’ve used hoppy IPA’s before and been disappointed by the strong “beer” taste left over. Feel free to experiment, but consider this a bit of sage wisdom.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar (can be mild or sharp)
- 2 tbsp fresh chopped chives
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- pinch of salt
- 12 oz. beer of your choice
- 1/4 cup agave (or honey)
- 6 tbsp cold butter, divided into 8 pats
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 375F and grease a 9×5 loaf pan
- In a mixing bowl, add flour, baking powder, garlic powder, chives, and salt and mix until combined.
- Then add the honey, shredded cheddar, and beer and mix until dough forms.
- Pour dough into greased loaf pan and shape until its touching all sides.
- Divide the butter into 8 equal pats and lay them on top of the dough.
- Place the loaf pan on to a rimmed baking sheet and put in the oven for 50-55 mins, or until a toothpick comes out dry.
- Remove from loaf pan and let cool on a rack – store in an air tight container or bag for best quality.
