Affordable clean beauty is such a hot trend right now, but I’ve been on the bandwagon for a few years now. I’ve never really been a fan of products with a million ingredients that I can’t pronounce, so transitioning to cleaner beauty and skin products was a no-brainer for me.
And its not just the ingredients that I wanted to clean up. I look at the company as a whole. Are they using recycled materials in their packaging? Do they have a mission statement that lines up with my beliefs? Are they looking out for the planet? I’m not here to preach perfection because hellooooo I am far from it. But if I can keep my skin clean and healthy by supporting companies that are trying to do good for the Earth then sign me up.
These are all affordable clean beauty products I use and love. Most of them are pregnancy safe, and all of them are clean, vegan, or both. For reference, I have combination break out prone skin (thank you post partum hormones). These products work really well for me, but every person is different.
Face
Balancing Face Cleanser: I noticed a difference in my skin after using this one time. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling super dry afterward, and it also does a good job at removing the occasional application of waterproof mascara. There is a light scent but its refreshing and doesn’t linger. PRO TIP: If you’re incapable of keeping your arms dry when washing your face – GET THESE. This totally changed my feelings towards washing my face; I’ll never look back.
Cucumber Face Toner: I use this after cleansing and I love how it makes my skin feel. It has a really light cucumber scent which makes me feel like I’m at the spa. It does an excellent job at picking up any lingering dirt or oil from your face so you have a nice clean slate to work with.
Vitamin C & SPF 55 Serum: I use this constantly. The vitamin C helps even skin tone and the SPF protects my pale-ass face from the sun. SPF is so so important in any skin care routine, and this one doesn’t feel heavy on my skin or leave any tacky traces after it dries.
Vitamin C Serum: A different option without the SPF. I like this one in the colder months because it has hyaluronic acid, which helps rehydrate dry skin. We have a wood stove that burns 24/7 in the winter, so my skin gets dry AF.
Vitamin C Night Cream: Before I hop off my soap box about Vitamin C, I think this night cream saved my life? Not to be dramatic, but it is thick and lovely and for less than $20 makes me feel like a million bucks.
Sensitive Skin Moisturizing Cream: This moisturizer feels like it should be a night cream because its so thick, but it absorbs really nicely and I don’t feel weighed down when I apply it during the day. It’s gentle on my moody skin, too.
Body
Nourishing Body Oil: This product feels like such a special treat. I started using it while I was pregnant to prevent stretch marks (lol) and now I use it after I shower because I love how it makes my skin feel. I put it on while I’m still damp from the shower before moisturizer and it absorbs really well without leaving me feeling greasy.
Belly Butter: Again – I used this while I was pregnant and now I just really like it. It has Vitamin E and Shea Butter, both of which help with elasticity and moisture. It’s advertised as belly butter but don’t tell my butt cheeks that ๐
Aluminum Free Deodorant: I’ve tried way too many natural deodorants ranging from suuper natural to “natural” and this one seems to work the best with the least nasty ingredients. The brand has a bunch of lovely scents and I don’t find myself needing to re-apply throughout the day like some other deodorants I’ve used.
Hair
Curl Enhancing Shampoo: My hair is kind of a mystery to me. Its fine and thin-ish which is not a winning combination, and on top of that has curly sections and straight sections. (If you’re a hair stylist and you’re reading this hit a girl up!) I’ve tried countless products from countless brands, but I’m liking this brand the best right now. Bonus: it smells like a pina colada!
Curl Enhancing Conditioner: I use conditioner sparingly because my hair gets weighed down very quickly, but this one keeps my ends shiny and soft (and smelling like a pina colada)
After Shower Curl Cream: The final step in my minimal hair care routine is this cream. I towel dry my hair and apply this to the middle-ends of my hair. Its light weight and not greasy and doesn’t dry crunchy which is a must for me to use it.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
After having a baby and going through the roller coaster of changing hormones and post partum hair loss, I’m still finding a beauty routine that can keep up with my needs. I plan on keeping this affordable clean beauty guide updated with any new additions I may find in the future. Do you swear by a clean product not on my list? Tell me about it in the comments!
